Getting started

How do I use Hey Be Safe?

A quick walkthrough: create your account, add the browser extension, autofill sites, then install the mobile app to sign in to apps on your phone.

Hey Be Safe keeps your passwords in one encrypted safe and fills them in for you — in your browser and on your phone. Here’s the whole flow, start to finish. It takes about ten minutes.

1. Create your account on the web

Open Hey Be Safe → and create your account. Pick a safe password you can remember but no one can guess, and write it down somewhere physical (a notebook in a drawer is fine). This is the one password the system can’t recover for you, so keep it safe.

2. Add the extension for your browser

The browser extension is what fills your passwords in as you browse. Install the one for the browser you use:

After it installs, pin it to your toolbar so it’s always one click away.

3. Sign in to the extension

Click the Hey Be Safe icon in your toolbar and sign in with the account you created in step 1. Your safe syncs down automatically.

4. Autofill websites

Now visit a site you sign in to. Click the username or password field and the Hey Be Safe suggestion appears — pick your login and the fields fill in. When you sign up somewhere new or change a password, Hey Be Safe offers to save it so it’s there next time.

5. Download the mobile app

To carry your safe with you, install the app on your phone:

Sign in with the same account. Your safe syncs automatically, so everything you saved in the browser is already there.

6. Sign in to apps on your phone

With the app installed, Hey Be Safe can fill your logins inside other apps too — not just websites. When you open an app’s sign-in screen, Hey Be Safe offers the matching login so you can sign in without typing.

To turn this on, make Hey Be Safe your phone’s autofill provider — a one-time step that’s a little different on each platform. Full walkthrough: Set up autofill on your phone →.

You’re set up

That’s the whole loop: save and fill on your computer, and the same logins follow you to your phone.
