Set up autofill on your phone (Android and iPhone)

Once the Hey Be Safe app is installed and you’re signed in, your safe is on your phone — but your phone won’t offer those logins until you make Hey Be Safe your autofill provider. That’s a one-time setup, and it’s a little different on Android and iPhone. Here’s each, step by step.

Note: These steps follow the current versions of Android, iPhone, and Chrome. Your phone’s menus may be named or arranged a little differently depending on your device and software version — but the overall flow is the same, and the names below should still point you to the right place.

Open the app and sign in with your Hey Be Safe account first — the steps below assume you’re signed in.

Android

Android has two switches to flip. The first tells the phone to use Hey Be Safe for autofill; the second tells Chrome to actually use it on websites.

1. Make Hey Be Safe your autofill service

1. Open your phone’s Settings app.
2. Search settings for “autofill” (the exact menu varies by phone — on most it’s under System → Languages & input → Autofill service; on Samsung it’s under General management → Passwords, passkeys, and autofill).
3. Choose Autofill service and select Hey Be Safe.
4. Confirm if your phone asks — it may warn that Hey Be Safe will be able to see the contents of screens where you use it. That’s how any autofill app fills your logins.

2. Tell Chrome to use it

Chrome on Android does not use a third-party autofill service on websites unless you turn it on — this is the step most people miss.

1. Open Chrome.
2. Tap the ⋮ menu → Settings.
3. Tap Autofill services (on some versions: Autofill and passwords).
4. Turn on Autofill using another service.
5. When prompted, choose Hey Be Safe.

Other browsers like Firefox and Brave use the system autofill service automatically, so this Chrome step is only needed for Chrome.

3. Use it

Open any app or website with a sign-in screen and tap the username or password field. A Hey Be Safe suggestion appears just above the keyboard — tap it, confirm with your fingerprint or face, and the fields fill in. If you don’t see it right away, tap the field again.

iPhone and iPad

1. Turn on Hey Be Safe autofill

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Go to General → AutoFill & Passwords (on older iOS: Settings → Passwords → Password Options).
3. Under Autofill from, turn on Hey Be Safe. You can leave iCloud Passwords on as well, or turn it off so Hey Be Safe is the only option.

2. Use it — tap the key icon above the keyboard

On a sign-in screen, tap the username or password field. iOS shows a row just above the keyboard:

• Sometimes your login appears there directly — tap it.
• If it doesn’t, tap the 🔑 key icon at the right of that row (above the keyboard). Choose Hey Be Safe, pick the login you want, and confirm with Face ID or Touch ID.

The username and password fill in for you. The key icon is always there when a field can be filled, so it’s the reliable way to reach your safe even when iOS doesn’t surface the login on its own.

Why the extra steps?

Phones only let one app fill your passwords at a time, and Android and Apple each require you to pick that app deliberately — it’s a security feature. Once Hey Be Safe is set as your autofill provider, you won’t have to do this again; it just works everywhere you sign in.
